What kind of doggie donuts do pooches like?
When Mama Caruso Cooks was invited into the kitchen of Matchmaker Mallory of Merryville USA to make donuts with Mallory’s friends and family – there was one special friend we didn’t have any special treats for – the pups who hang out with Paloma at the Pouf and Poodle. So Mama’s got a few tips for delicious doggie donuts that are sure to please your four legged friends…and maybe even some of your two legged friends too.
How Do You Find a Recipe?
Now, I don’t cook for dogs very often, although I am renowned in the canine world for my salmon leftovers, so I did the same kind of research I do when I am cooking for my friends and family:
1.Read cookbooks, skim through cooking magazines and scour the internet
2. After reading many recipes (ten recipes or more), identify common ingredients and develop an ingredients list.
3. Envision what the ingredients might taste like together – but when I got to cod liver oil – I decided that I would not do that for this exercise.
4. Read through the instructions and to find simple instructions that will fit into my time frame.
Common Ingredients in Doggie Donuts:
- Melted peanut butter
- Flour or oat flour
- Honey or molasses
- Cod Liver Oil
- Pumpkin Puree
And the recipe with pumpkin puree is the doggie donut winner!
From “Baked Doughnuts for Everyone” by Ashley McLaughlin
- Oat Flour
- Ground flax meal
- Peanut butter melted
- Pumpkin puree
These dog treats are sure to please – Ashley has some amazing recipes in her Baked Doughnut book – we modified several for the LIVE episode of Mama Caruso Cooks in Merryville USA and everyone LOVED them!
